The Massachusetts Institute of Technology says soaking the odor-eating clay known as zeolite in a copper solution will turn methane into a less harmful greenhouse gas known as carbon dioxide. In addition to that, the copper-zeolite-filled devices were tested in cow barns and coal mines, and they worked! After exposure to air, the chemical makeup changed. The lead researcher of the study said that if coal mines everywhere used these filters, methane would stop building up in the atmosphere. According to experts, if we could cut methane in the atmosphere by 45% by 2030, projected global warming could be reduced by half a degree by the start of the next century.
