HOBBY NO.1 AVIATION
In January 2022, teen pilot and history-maker Zara Rutherford touched down in Belgium, finishing a 32,000-mile, 41-country journey that broke two Guinness Records: The youngest solo female worldwide and the first solo female to circumnavigate the Earth in a microlight plane. Due to visa issues and bad weather, she took five months instead of three to get there, but she made it. Through her success, she hopes to inspire girls worldwide to focus on math, science, and technology, which played a significant role in her high-flying gap year.

Six-year-old Lyra lives in Ontario, Canada. She loves to lie low in the grass in her backyard, looking for creepy crawlies. Anything that buzzes, chirps, or croaks is her thing. Nevertheless, some kids told Lyra that they didn't like her interest in school. For example, they said catching bugs was just for boys. To prevent Lyra from giving up something she loves, her mother reached out to some scientists. Her passion for bugs moved them to tell other female scientists about Lyra, and many got in touch with encouragement. Lyra was told that passion is a great thing and that it's needed more in the world. Lyra heard from an insect expert that she shouldn't worry about what other people think about frogs and tadpoles. Lyra realized she wasn't alone in her love for bugs and science and that science is for everyone.

There is a 16-year-old girl making headlines for a bizarre hobby. Helena lives in southern Scotland and takes pictures of outer space. In fact, she got her first telescope when she was seven, but she's only truly gotten into deep space pictures in the last year. The hobby gave Helena a reason to relax during the lockdown: "You can do it alone in your garden." Helena created a hobby channel to showcase her expertise and enthusiasm. Since there is a shortage of female scientists, she hopes to inspire other young women. Now a lot of high-tech equipment is used by her but a camera and tripod are all anyone needs to get started. She has received a lot of attention. She was invited to speak at the Big Bang Festival for thousands of viewers.
